Get to know Stephen Runge – Relationship Executive

Meet Stephen Runge, one of our thriving Relationship Executives. Stephen has over 20 years of diverse experience in the insurance industry and is exceptionally dedicated to professional excellence. Here are ten questions to learn more about Stephen…

What do you most enjoy about insurance broking?

I find learning about a client’s business and the intricacies of their operations fascinating. I enjoy going into great detail about how a business operates and then approaching the market with that knowledge. I find that clients enjoy discussing their business success and the opportunity to converse with someone who appreciates the effort they have put into their industry.

What do you love most about working at Bell Partners Insurance?

The people and their energy attracted me to Bell Partners, there is a strong work ethos, and we all strive to help each other grow. There is always good office banter among the team, and we play hard once the work is done.

What does exceptional service mean to you?

Be available for your clients when they need you. Be innovative with your approach to a client’s requirements; the market is changing and you need to be able to accommodate these changes as a broker.

What behaviour or personality trait do you most attribute your success to, and why?

I enjoy the art of conversation, knowing when to listen to a client and their requirements and when to add value to a conversation is critical to me. It allows clients to feel comfortable being open about their business with me. I try to focus on being a resource the client can depend on for their business and develop an easy-going, trusting relationship.

What’s the best advice you were ever given?

Back yourself and your knowledge: be yourself, because everyone else is taken.

How do you prefer to start your day?

My day usually starts on the train catching up on current affairs. My first action in the office is to sweep over my emails and address anything urgent. I then start working through my emails, renewals and new business.

What energizes you at work?

Discussions between colleagues about a risk that has unusual requirements. I love the pool of knowledge the team has, and the comfort we have with each other to ask for assistance and guidance when needed.

What’s a work-related accomplishment that you’re really proud of?

It is not about a singular accomplishment for me, I really get a buzz out of helping clients. From chasing new business, to renewal reviews and general insurance discussions, it is about the longevity of a relationship with my clients for me. The biggest compliment a client can give me is a personal referral.

What’s your ’sing in the shower’ song?

P!nk ‘Get This Party Started’ or BEP ‘I Got a Feeling’, but it is more in my head because I can’t hold a tune.

Do you have a hidden talent?

I like social dynamics and body language, so I suppose reading those situations is a bit of a talent.

What’s something about you we need to know?

I love coffee but I can’t drink caffeine, and decaf is just not the same.
